A Hollywood Republican

This blog is for an open discussion on politics. My views will be to the right as will be most of the posters. But, we are willing to post alternative viewpoints as lons as they are well thought out. I started this in response to the Obama election and will continue it as long as it feeds a need.

The Tip of the Sword by Ira Schwartz

“If the Arabs put down their weapons today there would be no more violence.
If the Jews put down their weapons today there would be no more Israel.”

That is how I opened my October 4th article “Friends Forever”. It basically discussed the long and fruitful friendship Israel and the United States has enjoyed over the years. It’s still a good read and is listed in “The Hollywood Republicans” October ’09 archive.

In that article I went on to say..

“When the discussions with Iran fail, and they eventually will, it will be Israeli aircraft that take out the Iranian nuclear reactors not US fighters. Again we will publicly condemn them for this but privately applaud them for doing what we could not do without starting another war. Why would they do this? Because that’s what friends do.”
That statement is now even closer to the truth than when it was originally written. As I write this article Iranian “aid” ships are heading for Gaza determined to confront Israeli warships enforcing the Israeli blockade around Palestine. The Iranians say their ships carry medical aid, supplies and volunteers. The Israeli’s and most of the rest of the world are highly skeptical.

We all know what happened the last time ships tried to run the Israeli blockade. Despite at least a half dozen warning by the Israeli gun boats for the Turkish ships to turn around they continued. When the Israeli commandos boarded the ships they were immediately attacked with pipes and knives by those peace loving volunteers Turkey said were on board. Several YouTube videos of the incident clearly show the Israelis not to be the aggressors and were only defending themselves against this premeditated ambush. When the smoke cleared nine of the peace loving activists had been killed and six Israeli soldiers were injured, one severely.

To add insult to injury a Senior Hamas member, Ismail Raduan, responded to the IDF takeover on the vessels sailing to Gaza, saying that "this is state-sponsored organized terror. We are calling on the international community to do something. These are crimes against humanity and against our Palestinian people.”

Now this is the same Hamas that had no problem launching suicide bomber attacks against Israel from 1993 to 2005. In all 377 Israeli civilians and soldiers were killed and over 2,000 injured. But since they are now a legitimate government, so to speak, it’s okay for them to cry foul and expect the whole world to listen. Unfortunately those brain dead morons at the UN did. And in their infinite wisdom have decided to launch an investigation into the whole matter. Israel said, “Thanks but no thanks” we can investigate it ourselves. And they made it very clear that no Israeli will participate in any way with the UN probe. Surprisingly the United States actually backed Israel.

In late May Israel deployed three nuclear submarines to the Gulf region, well within striking distant of Iran. All three submarines are said to be carrying nuclear weapons. Those submarines join two Israeli missile cruisers that have been on station there since February.

But this is just the beginning. Earlier this week the Saudi Arabian government quietly gave Israel permission for her strike aircraft to use Saudi airspace on any bombing missions to Iran. It is not a secret that the Saudis, Egyptians and Jordanians, who are Sunnis, hate the Iranians, who are Shiite. The two groups have been killing each other for hundreds of years over which, Shiite or Sunni, is the rightful heir to Muhammad. The thought of Iran acquiring nuclear weapons has forced the three countries to put their differences aside with Israel and assist them anyway they can. I guess the old saying, “The enemy of my enemy is my friend” is true if only for a short time.

And what is the United States doing while all of this is going on? The Obama administration is still trying the diplomatic approach with more sanctions that China and Russia keep watering down. Meanwhile Iran gets closer and closer to developing at least two nuclear devices. But we don’t have to worry this time because we are not the target. Iran’s target is and always has been Israel. And we can be sure the Israelis will do whatever they have to to insure the safety of their people. Something our present administration seems to have forgotten how to do.

But if the Middle East goes nuclear you can be sure it won’t stop there. And all the death that will be incurred will be the responsibility of every nation that is a member of the UN’s Security Council. Because all the warning signs are there and plain to see but Russia, China, England and the United States would rather play politics than take them seriously.

I could not end this article without commenting on the anti-Semitic remarks made by Helen Thomas, a member of the White House Press Corp for the last 57 years. For those of you who don’t know what she said a link has been provided to the video. The Hearst Corporation, her employer, forced her to retire after she said that all the Jews in Palestine should “get the hell out” and go home to Poland, Germany and America. Thomas, soon to turn 90, must have forgotten why the Jews left Poland and Germany in the first place. After all she was only in her mid twenties when it happened. (Thank you Jon Stewart). I won’t elaborate further and only say, “Bye, bye Helen. You departure is long overdue.”

So my good friend, as usual we can analyze an accident down to the nano-molecule of intelligentsia. The literary authority has covered with great expertise, the who, what, when, where, how of this event. What we didn’t do is somewhat obvious, the details do add color. And there is always a place, an important place, for this commentary although it is usually referred to as history.

Let us review. This disaster is horrible but in the minds of some scientists, this oil spill amounts to one one-millionth of an ounce of oil in a bathtub full for bathing. Important, it certainly is, but hardly a panic. And we have been forwarded by the Gulf Oil Spill, The Lakeview gusher, the Ixtoc I Oil Spill and please visit the oil fields of Nigeria. We are in essence behaving like progressives when the bashed Bush for Katrina, offering little or no support, help, or resources for recovery. What is the review of the effects of Katrina today?

So my good friend, who, what, when, and where would you martial resources, what resources, what plan of action, as we analyze justifiably, the failures of this administration, to met this challenge head-on now, what is our “action plan” for the future. Or do we just pile on and feel superior? That is the question for Republicans, Conservatists and Americans.

The point is that it is easy to analyze what went or is wrong, it is much more difficult, significant and worthy of patriotism to offer up solutions.

Ira,

This is a great post and as always interesting. I guess the only thing that I would say is Israel is able to take care of itself. They already have nuclear weapons and my guess is they got them from us.
We are in a war with the Middle East already and I don’t see Israel helping us fight that war. The war with Palestine and all that about the GAZA strip has been going on forever it seems and during not just this administration but quite a few before this one. And the war rages on so I don’t think this administration is any more or less responsible than the one that gave Israel Nuclear weapons in the first place.
This Middle East game is like musical chairs anyway. Your worst enemy one day is your best friend the next depending on who is threatening you that particular week. As far as Israel is concerned we are married to them no matter what as the entire Middle East sees it that way. The Arabs always and will always hate us more than any other Muslim group regardless of religious differences. No matter who they were if they were Muslim its Christians killing Muslims and you know what that means.
As for the lack of action by our Government we are in the same boat as Israel. We have a Middle Eastern Country (if that‘s what it is) pushing us in front of the world. When that happens you really only have three choices. 1) Sanctions and more sanctions 2) do nothing and let them have nukes 3) declare war and physically stop them.
Israel has the same options basically as they cannot really sanction them but We and our friends are already doing that for them so what more can we really do when we are not already doing more than that for ourselves at the same time and in a similar situation?
Personally I would like for Israel or us (not picky) to wipe out the entire Middle East as I don’t think any of them are our friends and they all mean us harm.
A better solution is to advance clean energy here and set the pace to stop buying their oil and they couldn’t afford to play the board game war let alone cause us any problems.
We made the Middle East wealthy now we have to deal with them. We can take it away by making oil a thing of the past or reduce it’s value so greatly they are back to having nothing to sell or would have to sell it for $5 a barrel.
If you look at the current rate of growth in all people on earth the Muslims will be the majority in almost all major Countries in less time than I am comfortable with so we need to make a move and soon…
Thanks again for the read Ira….keeping important issues up front is a very good thing…and thanks Franky.
Even though I am an Independent I am feeling pretty Republican these days!

Great comments and great article! So very compelling and so so sadly true. We have to show a strong force to stop the insanity. Israel was being set up all along, and it is time we stood up to this thugs. Just like we have to stand up to the thugs from Chicago that have taken over our govt.
I was really surprised about the reporter. Liberal yes, but this? wow! I don't believe in total freedom - If they are KKK or Nazis or jihad muslems, I say, they get no rights, and ship them to the moon! Sorry but my thoughts - Gammy Sparkles

This article you just wrote is agruably one of the most important ever published on this site. The world is starting to feel like 1939again and too many people will not understand the political dynamics at play until the first big flash. Then they will be screaming for American leadership. Unfortunately, we are fresh out until January, 2013.

Thanks Craig. I just read your new article about Egypt. If what the Egyptian said is true it would definately explain a lot of things going on regarding Israel. My feeling is Obama can't really do anything to seriously hurt Israel. Both the congress and the Senate would not allow it. Hopefully what unfolds in the middle east over the next few months will not be as dark as I painted it.

A very well written article Ira. I think it should be added though that Bill Ayers and his equally radical wife Bernadine Dohrn have been directly linked to the Turkish, so called Flotilla, filled with weapons. This gives an indirect if not direct link to the Obama Organization. I also have to respectfuly disagree with your comment to Craig that Obama can't really hurt Israel. The majority of Americans clearly support Israel, yet this is not being reflected by the President of the United States. Here is a link to the Ayers Flotilla connection:http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/blogs/beltway-confidential/ayers-dohrn-helped-organize-flotilla-group-95435639.html

It all started when good people in America lost their way. Unbridled capitalism ran afoul of prudence, honesty, integrity and conscience. Woodrow Wilson started a new wave of progressivism with his signing of the Federal Reserve Act, which history may well record as the Creature from Jekyll Island. He compounded what many felt as his major mistake, with the Federal Trade Commission, the Clayton Antitrust Act, the Federal Farm Loan Act and the progressive income tax (wealth redistribution born) in the Revenue Act of 1913. He further tolerated and thus is responsible for segregation in the military and expansion of segregation in many federal agencies. He rewrote history, excluding the patriots of color, and he encouraged a segregated atmosphere at Princeton where he served as president for two terms. Roosevelt doubled down with NRA. And today we have unsustainable national debt. This is again the era of the destruction of character, honor and personal integrity in individuals with great power.

The destruction of capitalism is equally as devastating. First we tolerated the onslaught of unprincipled capitalism where “greed” and corruption was embraced as long as profits were sustainable. No on can deny that we were not warned first by Enron, WorldCom, Tyco, and Global Crossing. And then Bear Sterns collapse, Lehman Brothers bankruptcy, Goldman Sachs fraud, Bank of America transformation, AIG Derivative melt down rescued by TARP. The effective nationalization of GM, Freddie Mac, Fannie Mae and Ginnie Mae tittering on insolvency, is all but complete. Our great corporation complex lost their soul hijacked by progressive strategies lurking in the thesis of Cloward and Piven, and Sal Alinsky.

And now we have BP, a giant corporation, a company that made a mistake, probably many, progress is the child of failure, the subject of intense and corrupt administration rules, regulations and oversight, cowardly buckling under, irregardless of no congressional mandates or laws, in the absence of any judicial proceedings, simplify buckling under to what the world must see as American blackmail. If we allow it here it will blind side America in the future as the world sees how it is “acceptable” to us. And we were once a proud and noble nation, surely with flaws, but once uniquely defined by a sacred Constitution, no longer adhered to, admired or revered.

So first there was principled capitalism, then unprincipled capitalism, and now cowardly capitalism. The patient is dangerously sick and it seems no one can see the miracle of reviving it, making it well, making it whole again.

Do not despair however. There are still some great American private, honesty corporation run by individuals with decent souls. Think of IBM, Microsoft, Intel, AMD, Oracle, and Apple. There are many more but watch and see if these giants of private enterprise also become cowards in the face of this administrations shredding of the Constitution. Beckman Instruments (now Beckman-Coulter) once told the Federal Government that it would not participate in a ransom demand from Cuba. Where is that integrity, thast nationalism today?

Our Republic has moved tragically from parties of the honorable opposition to adversaries, a culture which history shows, all too often, can only be corrected with sacrifice, pain and, yes, ultimately violent conflict. How short are our memories!

Helen Thomas was not a new phenomenon. Anyone who rejoices in her self destruct does not embrace that unforgivable lack of responsibility for the absence of vigorous opposition to her and her ideas common during her tenure. Beware, rarely does the enemy self destruct. We should rejoice when the enemy reveals themselves because we are asleep on the parapets of liberty.

And so we must move closer to Israel, and the UK. We must stop demonizing entrepreneurs in crisis, and we must dare to don again the cloak of vision, leadership, compassion and exceptionalism.

I agree with most of what you say. But at this very moment in time I have no sympathy for BP or it's executives. They knew there were saftey issues with the rig fraingrbut decided to ignore them to save money. The almighty buck. It cost 11 lives and destroyed a complete economic and eco system. So if all we do is demonize them they should feel lucky. This could have been avoided and they need to be held accountable for there numerous bad choices.
